(Source: PTI/Wiki) After being released following his arrest in connection with the Trisha remark controversy, Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), accusing the party’s supporters of spreading false allegations against him. In a strongly worded statement, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader declared that he was ready to be arrested “a hundred times" if it meant standing up for farmers. He alleged that the state government had arrested him to divert attention from farmers’ issues, while dubbing the administration the “Sofa Model" government for allegedly failing to address their grievances. “The #SofaModel government, which is incapable of addressing the hardships of farmers, has arrested me in an attempt to divert attention from the real issues," he said. TVK’s Abusive Warriors Distorted My Remarks: Udhayanidhi Referring to the controversy that erupted after his protest in Thanjavur, the DMK leader targeted TVK workers, calling them “abusive warriors" and accusing them of deliberately distorting his speech.

Udhayanidhi further alleged that false cases had been filed against him to harass him. Udhayanidhi Calls His Arrest ‘Comedy’ “By registering false cases and taking me from Chennai to Thanjavur, they believed they could harass me and satisfy certain interests," he said, adding that he had viewed his arrest as “a comedy" and had not tried to evade the police. “After my arrest, I told the media that I viewed the arrest as a comedy before leaving. I did not run away out of fear of the police," he said. ‘CM May Be Afraid Of Getting Arrested, I Am Not’ The DMK leader also took aim at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, accusing him of failing to stand with victims during the Karur tragedy. “But the people of Tamil Nadu know that when 41 people died in Karur, today’s Chief Minister neither met the bereaved families nor faced the media, and instead fled fearing that he might be arrested. Even after so many lives were lost in Karur, within a month he travelled to Malaysia and danced at a film promotion event," Udhayanidhi alleged.
