The bodies of a 47-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man were found hanging from a mango tree in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur district, with police treating the deaths as a suspected case of suicide while investigating the circumstances from all angles. When she could not be found by Monday morning, her daughter Rani filed a written missing-person report at the Gosaiganj police station.
Read Full Story Later on Monday, a farmer discovered Lalti and local man Sanghiram hanging from a tree in an orchard and alerted police and villagers. MISSING WOMAN FOUND DEAD According to police, Lalti's family searched for her through the night after she failed to return home but could not trace her. The bodies were found the next day when a farmer from the village went to his field to check his crops and spotted the two hanging from the tree in the orchard in the Gosaiganj area.
Circle Officer Jaisinghpur Sunil Kumar Singh said police reached the spot, brought down both bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination. LIGATURE MARKS FOUND Singh said both Lalti and Sanghiram had ligature marks around their necks. A blood clot was also found on the lower part of Sanghiram's leg, which police said could have resulted from a scratch or abrasion. The police and forensic teams recovered a torch from the spot. Gutkha and some cash were also found in the pocket of one of the deceased.
PROBE UNDERWAY Police said the circumstances surrounding the deaths were still being examined and that the post-mortem reports and other evidence would help establish what happened. “For now, the case appears prima facie to be one of suicide,” Singh said, while adding that the investigation was being conducted from all angles. Police are awaiting the post-mortem findings and examining the evidence collected from the orchard as they investigate the deaths of Lalti and Sanghiram. Ends
