In an episode of News Track, anchor Maria Shakeel examines the issue of women being targeted in political crossfire, highlighting recent remarks involving actor Trisha Krishnan and subsequent police action against Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin. Udhayanidhi Stalin was detained and later released following allegations of objectionable remarks made during an address regarding the Cauvery water issue. Upon his release, Udhayanidhi claimed he was deliberately misquoted by Chief Minister Vijay's government, asserting that he never intended to demean women and describing his arrest as a diversionary tactic.
Congress MP Karti Chidambaram criticized both the speech and the police action, calling the arrest an overreaction while agreeing that the comments objectified women. DMK leader Trichy Siva defended Udhayanidhi, stating he did not name anyone and was focused on the Cauvery issue, maintaining that standard procedures were bypassed during the arrest. BJP leader Khushbu Sundar welcomed the action taken by the Vijay administration, stressing that misogynistic and sexist political language against women must end.
