Thiruvananthapuram followed with a 391 per cent surplus, recording 121.8 mm against its normal 24.8 mm. Kozhikode received 290.1 mm, which was 274 per cent above normal, while Kollam recorded 130.6 mm, an excess of 245 per cent. Malappuram received 227 mm of rainfall, 235 per cent above normal, while Kottayam recorded 209.3 mm, marking a 234 per cent surplus. DISTRICTS SEE SHARP RAINFALL SURPLUSES Kannur received 274.4 mm of rain, 179 per cent above normal, while Ernakulam recorded 192.8 mm, an excess of 180 per cent.
Alappuzha recorded 139.2 mm of rainfall, 175 per cent above normal. Thrissur received 189.6 mm, marking a 162 per cent surplus, while Palakkad recorded 174.3 mm, 188 per cent above normal. Idukki received 229.2 mm of rainfall, 110 per cent above normal. Kasaragod recorded 205.3 mm, an excess of 80 per cent, while Wayanad received 171.2 mm, 57 per cent above its normal rainfall. MAHE ALSO SEES HEAVY RAIN The intense spell also extended to Mahe, which recorded 201.2 mm of rainfall between August 1 and 4 against the normal 81.1 mm.
This amounted to an excess of 148 per cent. The figures point to the widespread nature of the heavy rainfall across Kerala during the opening days of August, with the state recording a substantial overall surplus and several districts witnessing rainfall far above their usual levels for the period.
