The Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway has come under scrutiny following a fifth repair requirement within 20 days of its grand inauguration. Built at an estimated cost of ₹4,200 crore, the 63-kilometer si lane road was constructed under the supervision of the Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Recent inspections revealed surface collapse creating a six to seven inch gap along a 300 to 400 meter stretch, leading to traffic prohibition on the affected section.
Preliminary investigations by NHAI indicate slippage in the pavement and upper bituminous layer, while maintaining that the bridge foundation, substructure, and superstructure remain intact. In response, NHAI ordered a probe, removed three engineers from duty, and deployed a technical team to investigate the root cause.
