Zilla Panchayat CEO Rahul Shindhe said on Tuesday that over 7.16 lakh hectares of the total of 7.52 lakh hectares (95%) of farmland in Belagavi district was under cultivation for the current monsoon season. He was presiding over the district-level monitoring committee meeting of various projects for the year 2026-27. There is a demand of 37,543 quintals of various sowing seeds for the monsoon season, of which 37,267 quintals have been supplied. So far, 31,669 quintals has been distributed to farmers. Additionally, around 5,598 quintals of various types of seeds are available in stock and there is no shortage of sowing seeds. He instructed officials to work in coordination.
Shindhe directed the officials to properly implement various schemes of the Agriculture Department like ATMA, Krishi Bhagya, Hi-tech Harvester Hub, Agricultural Mechanisation, Natural Mission, Karnataka Raitha Samriddhi Yojana, Food Security and Nutrition Mission, Edible Oil Mission-Oilseeds, Crop Diversity, Self-reliance in Pulses and VB-G RAM G. The Natural Agriculture Mission has helped in improving soil fertility and reducing cultivation costs, thereby increasing the net income of farmers. Under this project, 7,048 farmers in the district have been provided training, the CEO said. “The Horticulture Department should take steps to increase the income level of farmers in the district by providing subsidies under the Horticulture Mission and other schemes.
Bank officials and officials of various departments should work in coordination to provide the necessary credit facilities from banks to farmers to carry out horticulture activities without any hindrance. Officers should take steps to grow quality horticultural seedlings in all horticultural fields and nurseries in the district under the Karnataka State Horticulture Development Scheme and to provide technical information about horticultural crops to farmers,” the CEO said. Joint Director of Agriculture H.D. Kolekar said that around 341 mm of rainfall was received against the normal rainfall of 354 mm, which is a 4% rainfall deficit. There was no scarcity of fertilizers as the department had received 2,87,370 tonnes of fertilizer against the estimated requirement of 2,50,736 tonnes for the monsoon season.
Around 1,52,776 tonnes of various fertilizers have been reserved and stocks of 1,34,594 tonnes of fertilizer is available. Kolekar said that agricultural officers and scientists were continuously conducting field visits across the district and giving appropriate advice to farmers on plant protection campaigns, awareness campaigns on safe and judicious use of pesticides, and alternative crop schemes. Last year, 5,60,403 farmers were trained in latest agricultural technology through various trainings, messages, awareness campaigns and other programmes, he said.
