Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition and DMK leader Udayanidhi Stalin was released on station bail after being detained by Thanjavur police following a complaint over alleged obscene and misogynistic remarks against actor Trisha, who is known to be close to Chief Minister Vijay. The police action, based on an FIR containing nine sections including two non-bailable offenses, triggered high drama as Udayanidhi was taken nearly 400 kilometres from Chennai to Sengipetti in Thanjavur for interrogation.
The DMK termed the move a ploy to prevent him from attending the assembly budget session. Following his release on bail, Udayanidhi's supporters staged a show of strength as he headed towards Trichy airport to return to Chennai.
