Rapid Read News18 The Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has decided to institute an inquiry into Meta Platforms Inc. over allegations related to linked to Child Sexual Exploitative and Abuse Material (CSEAM), government sources said on Tuesday. The decision follows the Commission’s suo motu cognisance of a BBC Eye investigation, based on which it issued a notice to Meta on July 3, 2026, seeking an explanation over the alleged linked to CSEAM on the company’s platforms.

According to government sources, the NCPCR sought clarification from the social media giant after the report raised concerns about the alleged presence of related to Child Sexual Exploitative and Abuse Material. Meta submitted its response to the Commission about a week after receiving the notice. The inquiry will examine the issues highlighted in the BBC Eye investigation alongside Meta’s response submitted to the Commission before arriving at its findings. The NCPCR is expected to determine the factual position in the matter based on the material available during the inquiry. No further details regarding the scope or timeline of the inquiry were immediately available. Meta has also not issued any fresh public statement following the NCPCR’s decision to institute the inquiry.
