BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran said on Tuesday that he had written to Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar over the Cauvery water issue, expressing Tamil Nadu's opposition to the Mekedatu project and also listing out “constructive alternatives” for regional water security. In a social media post, he hoped that the Karnataka Chief Minister would work towards a lasting and cooperative resolution to the Cauvery issue, one that protected the rights of farmers, addressed the water needs of cities, and ensured that divisive forces never succeed in turning Tamil and Kannadiga brothers against each other. Nagenthran listed the utilisation of Karnataka’s west-flowing rivers, Godavari-Krishna-Pennar-Cauvery river linking project, and balancing the reservoir at Rasimanal as alternatives to ensure water security.
