His inspiring story of determination. Rapid Read Tejas Shirse at CWG 2026. Star Indian athlete Tejas Shirse has revealed that he ran the 110m hurdles final at the Commonwealth Games with two stress fractures and has now been ruled out of the upcoming Asian Games due to the injury that he sustained during the qualification round.
Shirse became the first Indian to qualify for the men’s 110m hurdles final at the Glasgow CWG, clocking 13.76 seconds. Competing with his foot heavily taped, Shirse finished eighth in the eight-man final, clocking 15.39 seconds as he battled through visible pain. “This isn’t the post I dreamed of writing. I thought I would be holding a medal. This was the time I was prepared to win. Instead, I am holding MRI reports. Two stress fractures in my left foot," Shirse wrote in an Instagram post. “A dream paused. A season over. I did not feel it competing. Something changed during warm-up. Every athlete knows that moment when your body tells you something is wrong, but your heart refuses to listen," Shirse said.
“So I ran. Not because I thought I would win. Because sometimes you have worked too long to walk away before the gun goes off. I have read the comments. “I limped because I was in last position," Shirse added. The star Indian athlete had the option to withdraw from the CWG final, but chose to push through despite the warning signs from his injured body. Shirse also laughed off the comments of him feigning the injury. But he didn’t seek sympathy. Shirse said that he hopes his determination to overcome injuries will inspire other athletes facing similar setbacks. “If my journey can help even one person believe that setbacks aren’t the end, then I will continue to be honest about both the highs and the lows.
Today, I don’t have a comeback story," Shirse wrote.
