According to a release issued by the Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Limited (KBJNL) on Tuesday, the Basavasagar reservoir at Narayanapur in Shorapur taluk recorded an inflow of 1.50 lakh cusecs. As a result, 1.45 lakh cusecs of water was released downstream into the Krishna.
The water level in the reservoir stood at 491.38 metres on Tuesday, against its full reservoir level of 492.25 metres. The Bhima, which flows about two km from the Yadgir district headquarters, is also witnessing a sharp rise in water level following the release of water from the Sannati bridge-cum-barrage in Chittapur taluk of neighbouring Kalaburagi district.
Officials said the barrage recorded both an inflow and an outflow of 1.12 lakh cusecs. The storage stood at 1.650 tmcft against its total capacity of 2.84 tmcft. In view of the rising river levels, the district administration has placed all departments concerned on alert. Deputy Commissioner Rahul Pandve directed revenue and emergency services personnel to respond promptly to any flood- or rain-related emergencies.
Pandve also appealed to farmers, fishermen and residents to stay away from the banks of the Krishna and Bhima rivers until the water level recedes. He advised them not to venture into the waterbodies or undertake activities such as fishing or bathing livestock.
