Rapid Read PV Sindhu is seeded ninth at the BWF World Championships (Picture credit: BAI) Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has been seeded ninth in the women’s singles draw, while India’s star men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will enter the upcoming BWF World Championships as the fifth seeds. The tournament will be held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi from August 17 to 23.

Sindhu heads into the tournament as the reigning Japan Open champion, while Satwik and Chirag are the defending Asian Games men’s doubles gold medallists from the 2022 edition. India will field two entries in each of the five categories at the World Championships, with at least one seeded pair or shuttler in four of the five events. Besides Sindhu and Satwik-Chirag, former World Championships bronze medallist Lakshya Sen has been seeded 14th in men’s singles, while the mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto will enter the tournament as the 15th seeds. The shuttlers qualified for the World Championships based on the world rankings published on April 28, 2026, while the seedings were determined using the rankings released on July 28, 2026.

Reigning men’s singles world champion Shi Yuqi of China and South Korea’s An Se Young, the reigning women’s singles champion, have been named the top seeds in their respective categories. Defending women’s singles world champion Akane Yamaguchi of Japan has been seeded second, with China’s Wang Zhiyi and Chen Yufei occupying the third and fourth spots, respectively. The draw for the World Championships will be held in New Delhi on Wednesday, with the final seedings subject to change if any of the seeded shuttlers withdraw before the draw. South Korea’s Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae have been named the top seeds in the men’s doubles event, while China’s Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning will lead the women’s doubles draw as the top-seeded pair.
