A rock eagle-owl, a Schedule I protected species under the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, was rescued after being found injured near Dharmavaram in Sri Sathya Sai district on Tuesday (August 4, 2026).
After treatment, it was released into the wild. Forest officials said the rescue was carried out under the HANUMAN Wildlife Rescue Initiative, which ensured the bird received immediate veterinary care.
After recovering, the owl was released into the Nelakota Reserve Forest in the district. The operation reflected the Forest Department’s commitment to protecting vulnerable wildlife
through timely intervention, scientific rehabilitation, and coordinated field efforts, while promoting conservation of protected species and biodiversity across the district.
