Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday alleged that Delhi Police stopped him and a delegation of around 100 people affected by E20-blended petrol from marching to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence to submit more than 2.33 lakh public petitions seeking the withdrawal of the fuel policy. According to the party, Kejriwal and the delegation staged a brief sit-in on the road after being prevented from proceeding. The demonstration ended after the police took custody of the petitions, which the party said would be forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office. The Centre had not responded to the allegations at the time of writing. Addressing a press conference later, Kejriwal said the AAP had sought an appointment with the Prime Minister nearly a month ago to discuss concerns over E20 fuel but had received no response.

“We had gone today to submit 2,33,238 petitions to the Prime Minister. We were informed that he would not meet us," he said. Kejriwal Questions E20 Rollout Kejriwal renewed his criticism of the Centre’s E20 fuel policy, alleging that the government was pushing it despite acknowledging in Parliament that E20 can reduce fuel efficiency and affect certain engine components. He questioned why the policy was being implemented if it allegedly lowers mileage and increases maintenance costs for vehicle owners. The AAP chief further alleged that the policy was being driven by pressure from US President Donald Trump and claimed India was being compelled to import ethanol from the United States. He also disputed the government’s argument that the policy benefits Indian farmers and reduces foreign exchange expenditure, alleging instead that it primarily benefits American maize growers. The Union government has maintained that ethanol blending reduces dependence on imported crude oil, cuts emissions and supports domestic sugarcane farmers. It has also stated that vehicles manufactured after specified model years are compatible with E20 fuel. AAP Warns of Larger Agitation Kejriwal said the party would intensify its campaign if the E20 policy is not reconsidered. He claimed that the Punjab Assembly has passed a resolution seeking withdrawal of E20 and announced that AAP legislators in Gujarat, Goa and Jammu & Kashmir would move similar resolutions in their respective Assemblies.
