A nine-month-old baby girl allegedly died after her mother drowned her in a lake in Hyderabad’s LB Nagar area, in a case that has shocked residents and prompted a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. According to police, the accused woman, identified as Rajeshwari, was taken into custody after the incident near Bayramalguda on Sunday. Investigators are probing whether she was under the influence of alcohol at the time and whether there were other factors that led to the child’s death.
The victim, Anuradha, was the only daughter of Ravinder Reddy, a native of Chintapally in Telangana’s Nalgonda district, and Rajeshwari, who hails from Bidar district in neighbouring Karnataka. The couple married around seven years ago and had been living in Injapur, near LB Nagar, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Ravinder Reddy works as a labourer at the Batasingaram fruit market. Frequent Domestic Disputes According to local reports, the couple had been facing frequent domestic disputes for some time. Family members and neighbours allegedly told police that Rajeshwari would often leave home with the infant without informing anyone and remain away for two or three days before returning. The issue had reportedly become a recurring source of conflict between the couple. Police are now verifying these claims as part of their investigation. Baby Allegedly Drowned In Lake On Sunday, Rajeshwari allegedly left home with the nine-month-old after consuming alcohol. Investigators said she walked to a lake near Bayramalguda, where she allegedly entered the water with the child and drowned her.
People nearby reportedly noticed the incident and rushed towards the lake in an attempt to intervene. The child, however, could not be saved. Some local residents allegedly confronted the woman before informing the police about the incident. Father Breaks Down At Spot After receiving the alert, police reached the spot and began their investigation. The baby’s body was later recovered from the lake and sent to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. The child’s father, who reached the spot after learning about the incident, broke down on seeing his daughter’s body. Witnesses said the grieving father was inconsolable as he held the body of his nine-month-old daughter. Police Investigating Motive Police have registered a case and taken Rajeshwari into custody. Investigators are examining whether the alleged murder was committed under the influence of alcohol or if there were other personal or domestic circumstances that contributed to the incident. Further investigation is underway, and police are yet to disclose the exact motive behind the alleged crime.
