A humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) claimed on Tuesday, alleging civilian deaths, firearm injuries, severe shortages of medicines and blood, and restrictions on movement following an ongoing crackdown by Pakistani security forces. In an urgent appeal, the committee called upon the Pakistan Red Crescent Society and the Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan to immediately intervene in Rawalakot, Mirpur and other affected areas, saying the situation had deteriorated into a medical emergency.

The appeal comes amid continuing protests in PoK and allegations by the JKJAAC that Pakistani authorities have intensified security operations, leading to civilian casualties and widespread disruption of essential services. According to the committee, critically injured civilians are being forced to travel nearly 40 kilometres to Palandri for emergency treatment as trauma care facilities remain inaccessible in the worst-affected areas. It alleged that road closures and security cordons have significantly delayed medical evacuations, putting lives at risk. The committee also claimed that hospitals across parts of PoK are struggling with acute shortages of blood, essential medicines and emergency medical supplies, while ambulances have faced difficulties reaching affected locations. Adding to the crisis, the JKJAAC alleged that telecom restrictions imposed in several areas have left families unable to trace relatives who are missing, injured or detained during the security operations.

The protest body has demanded the immediate deployment of independent medical teams, ambulances and humanitarian workers, besides seeking guarantees for the safe and unrestricted movement of doctors, relief personnel and essential supplies. In a letter addressed to Prof Dr Hafeez ur Rahman, president of the Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan, the committee requested urgent humanitarian assistance for Rawalakot, Mirpur and other affected regions. It sought ambulances, medicines, food supplies and support for families who have lost relatives during the unrest. The JKJAAC said humanitarian organisations should intervene on an urgent basis to prevent further loss of life and ensure civilians have access to medical treatment and relief.
