The Tata Punch has added another milestone to its list of achievements. Tata Motors has announced that the Punch has crossed the 8 lakh sales mark in less than five years, making it the fastest SUV in India to reach the milestone. Launched in October 2021, the Punch quickly carved out a niche in the compact SUV segment by combining SUV-like styling, a high safety rating, practical dimensions and multiple powertrain choices at an accessible price point. Read Full Story The achievement reflects the Punch's sustained popularity in the Indian market. In the first half of 2026 alone, the Punch range (including ICE and EV variants) recorded strong monthly sales, with 19,257 units in January, 18,748 in February, 20,977 in March, 19,107 in April, 20,208 in May and 21,006 units in June. Available with petrol, CNG and electric powertrains One of the key reasons behind the Punch's success has been its diverse range of powertrain options.
Buyers can choose between petrol, CNG and all-electric versions, allowing the model to cater to a wide spectrum of customers, from first-time car buyers to urban EV adopters. The ICE-powered Punch received a comprehensive update earlier this year, while the Punch.ev facelift followed shortly after, ensuring that both versions remain competitive in an increasingly crowded compact SUV market. 2026 Tata Punch The updated petrol-powered Punch introduced a sharper exterior design inspired by the Punch.ev. It features vertically stacked LED headlamps, a full-width LED DRL strip, a redesigned grille and bumper, new alloy wheels and connected LED tail-lamps. Tata also expanded the colour palette with fresh exterior shades. Inside, the cabin has been significantly modernised. The SUV now gets Tata's illuminated two-spoke steering wheel, a redesigned dashboard, a touch-based climate control panel, upgraded upholstery and improved seating comfort. The feature list has also grown with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, a 360-degree camera, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, an air purifier and an eight-speaker audio system.
Mechanically, Tata expanded the Punch lineup with the introduction of a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 120bhp and 170Nm, paired with a si speed manual transmission. The familiar naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine continues alongside the twin-cylinder CNG version, which now becomes India's first SUV to offer a CNG-AMT combination. Punch.ev facelift recieved a bigger battery The Punch.ev also received a notable update in 2026. Priced between Rs 9.69 lakh and Rs 12.59 lakh (e showroom), the electric SUV also became available under Tata's Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme, reducing the starting acquisition cost to Rs 6.49 lakh, with battery usage charged separately on a per-kilometre basis. Visually, the facelifted EV gets revised bumpers, new aero-optimised alloy wheels and connected LED tail-lamps, bringing its styling closer to the updated ICE model. The cabin continues to offer a premium feature set with dual 10.25-inch displays, wireless charging, connected car technology, ventilated front seats and a 360-degree camera on higher variants.
