Bharat Taxi, India’s first cooperative-led, driver-owned cab service, has officially begun operations in the twin cities from last week, offering fixed fares with no surge pricing — even during rain or peak demand. The rollout followed a phased approach: trials began in Mumbai on May 25, then Pune on June 26, before Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis formally launched the service at Navi Mumbai International Airport on July 23.

With trials now complete, commuters across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad can book rides on the platform, Bharat Taxi Pune city head Mohit Mitra was quoted by the Indian Express. What Makes Bharat Taxi Different From Ola, Uber And Rapido? Around 35,000 drivers have been onboarded under a zero-commission model, with fares finalised in consultation with drivers and aligned to RTO norms. Unlike rival apps, where prices spike during rain, festivals or high demand, Bharat Taxi’s fares stay fixed through the day, rising only 10 per cent during morning and evening peak hours. The company has also frozen both floor and ceiling rates — sedans, for instance, are pegged at the RTO base rate of Rs 25/km rather than the usual Rs 18–32.50 range, Mitra explained to IE. What’s Next — Airports And Intercity Routes? Bharat Taxi is in talks with airport officials to set up a booth and deposit arrangement for pickups, expected to begin soon from the Aeromall.

It has also launched a Pune–Mumbai intercity service, with fares fixed at Rs 21/km for hatchbacks, Rs 23/km for sedans, and Rs 30/km for SUVs.
