(PTI) In the aftermath of two attacks, central agencies have identified key areas, pockets, and routes across Jammu & Kashmir amid concerns over a fresh threat for persons posed by a small group of foreign and local terrorists. These areas and routes are vulnerable and security has been intensified. A fresh advisory has been issued to security forces, directing them to avoid isolated or single-personnel deployments and to immediately halt casual movement and non-essential, personal activities in sensitive areas. According to sources, security deployments will be intensified and search operations stepped up across the identified locations.
Sources said agencies have also narrowed down a specific area within a defined radius to trace the terrorists believed to be behind the two latest attacks. Earlier, intelligence inputs had warned of the presence of a small group comprising both foreign and local terrorists, suspected to be armed with small arms and other weapons. According to sources, the security concerns extend across multiple locations in both the Jammu and Kashmir regions, with several sites being closely monitored by security agencies. Sources further said a separate advisory has been issued to security personnel, directing them to cease casual movement and non-essential activities and to avoid isolated or single deployments. Personnel have also been instructed not to stop vehicles without following predefined standard operating procedures. The pattern looks similar to attacks which were executed in 2022 by terrorists. During this year, multiple people, policemen, officials, teacher, local leaders were targeted in same manner.
In the similar manner, The two attacks occurred in south Kashmir. In the first, Head Constable Aashiq Hussain Qureshi of the IR 3rd Battalion was shot dead by a lone terrorist in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag while deployed on Amarnath Yatra security duty. In the second attack, terrorists opened fire on two non-local labourers at a brick kiln in the Kellam area of Kulgam district. The victims, both in their 20s and natives of Chhattisgarh, were daily-wage workers. One was killed on the spot, while another sustained critical injuries, and later died during treatment. Security agencies believe the attacks may be linked to a reactivated terror module. These are the first major terror attacks in the Valley since the April 2025 Pahalgam massacre.
