A major row has erupted after a video message by Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing India's youth on paper leaks was temporarily restricted on Facebook before being restored. Meta attributed the removal to a technical glitch and offered an apology, but the Parliamentary Standing Committee on IT deemed the response inadequate.
IT Panel Chief Nishikant Dubey demanded a personal apology from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and questioned who authorized the takedown. The panel asked Meta to submit a written explanation within 10 days. The incident has raised questions about whether Meta could lose its safe harbor shield under Section 79 of the IT Act, which protects social media platforms from user content liability.
