Tamil Nadu Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin landed in controversy over an alleged double entendre made during a public speech after members of the audience chanted actor Trisha’s name, prompting sharp criticism from the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the BJP. The incident occurred while Udhayanidhi Stalin was addressing a gathering on the Cauvery water dispute and attacking Chief Minister C.

Udhayanidhi Stalin briefly paused, smirked and made what many interpreted as an innuendo referring to actor Trisha, Vijay’s former co-star and close friend, who has long been linked to the Chief Minister by social media speculation. A video of the exchange quickly went viral, sparking a political storm. Reacting to the remarks, TVK MLA Rhevanth Charan described them as “absolutely disgusting" and accused the DMK leader of lowering the standards of political discourse. “Passing such disgraceful comments against anyone is completely unacceptable. It exposes the mindset, political culture, and declining standards of the clan," Charan said, calling the episode a new low.

The BJP also launched a scathing attack on Udhayanidhi Stalin, with Tamil Nadu BJP chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy demanding his arrest. “Udhayanidhi Stalin’s double-meaning speech about Chief Minister Vijay and Trisha in Thanjavur is disgusting, obscene, vulgar, and shameful," Thirupathy said. He further alleged that the remarks reflected poorly on the DMK’s political culture and argued that arresting Stalin over the speech would “bring more credit" to Chief Minister Vijay. BJP leader Vinoj P. Selvam also condemned the remarks, saying it was particularly inappropriate for Udhayanidhi Stalin, himself a former actor, to make disparaging comments involving a fellow artist. “The Opposition leader is also a former actor himself. Yet, it’s shocking that he speaks so disdainfully about fellow artists like this.
