(Image source: Reuters) Multiple WhatsApp users in India were temporarily locked out of their accounts on Monday after the messaging platform placed them under a 24-hour review, leaving them unable to access key app features. The issue was first reported around 8 pm IST, with several users saying their accounts were put “under review" without any prior warning. The disruption prompted many affected users to take to social media, seeking answers and support.
Users saw a message on the app stating: “Account in review. Date requested: 3 Aug 2026. Your account activity and device info is being checked to make sure it follows our terms of service. We will notify you of the result typically within 24 hours." The screen also included links explaining responsible use of WhatsApp and information about stolen phones and accounts. Users report sudden account restrictions Several users claimed their accounts were disabled unexpectedly despite using the official WhatsApp application. One user wrote on social media platform X, “My WhatsApp account has been disabled without any explanation. I have already submitted an appeal, but the review page only displays a generic message stating that it will “typically be reviewed within 24 hours. Help me urgently." Another user, identified as Saloni, said, “My WhatsApp account was suddenly disabled without any warning.
I only use the official app, and my work depends on WhatsApp. Please help. This was so unnecessary." The temporary restrictions affected access to WhatsApp’s features while the review was in progress, causing concern among users who rely on the platform for personal and professional communication. WhatsApp, owned by Meta, had not issued an official statement on the incident at the time of writing. An email seeking clarification from the company did not receive an immediate response, PTI reported. It remains unclear how many accounts were affected or what triggered the review process. Users who received the notice were informed that the review would typically be completed within 24 hours, after which they would be notified of the outcome.
