TAMIL NADU MOVES SUPREME COURT The controversy came as the Tamil Nadu government moved the Supreme Court against Karnataka, accusing the neighbouring state of failing to release its share of Cauvery water in accordance with directions issued by the Cauvery Water Management Authority and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee. The petition was filed on Monday on the instructions of Chief Minister Vijay after Karnataka allegedly failed to release the required quantity of water despite repeated directions from the river authorities. Tamil Nadu argued that Karnataka had not released even the quantity ordered by the Cauvery Water Management Authority. Acting on the advice of senior legal counsel, the state government sought directions from the Supreme Court to ensure Karnataka complies with the orders and releases Tamil Nadu’s rightful share within the stipulated timeframe.
The Cauvery dispute has once again become a major political flashpoint in Tamil Nadu, with the ruling government facing criticism from the Opposition over its handling of water-sharing negotiations with Karnataka. Ends
