Delhi is set for a major overhaul of its agricultural markets, with a Rs 193-crore modern poultry market at Ghazipur due for completion by December, two new steel sheds planned at Narela and a modern flower market proposed at the Integrated Freight Complex in Ghazipur. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed the progress of ongoing and proposed infrastructure projects at Ghazipur, Narela and the Integrated Freight Complex and directed officials to ensure that the works are completed within their deadlines, according to an official statement. RS 193-CRORE POULTRY MARKET AT GHAZIPUR The modern poultry market at Ghazipur, spread across nearly 15 acres, has been under construction since March 2019 and is scheduled to be completed by December 31. The facility will accommodate 100 wholesale traders and have 120 poultry processing units, according to the government. The project is among the major infrastructure works being monitored by the Delhi government as part of its efforts to upgrade agricultural markets in the capital. MODERN FLOWER MARKET PLANNED AT GHAZIPUR The government also reviewed plans for a modern flower market at the Integrated Freight Complex in Ghazipur. Around 10 acres of land acquired from the Delhi Development Authority in 2001 has been earmarked for the project.
The proposed market will be developed in phases. The project is intended to add modern infrastructure for the city's flower trade alongside the existing agricultural market facilities in the Ghazipur area. DRAINAGE, SANITATION WORK AT GHAZIPUR At the Ghazipur Fruit, Vegetable and Flower Market, work is underway to address waterlogging through the construction of a 200-metre bypass drainage pipeline. The project has been approved at a cost of Rs 17 lakh. Officials also told the chief minister that regular drives are being conducted to remove stray animals from the market premises as part of efforts to improve sanitation. TWO NEW SHEDS FOR NARELA GRAIN MARKET The government has also proposed two additional steel sheds at the Narela Grain Market at an estimated cost of around Rs 11 crore.
The new structures are expected to be completed by July 2027. The projects at Narela, Ghazipur and the Integrated Freight Complex formed part of the review meeting, with the chief minister asking officials to keep the works on schedule. The overall plan covers the completion of the Ghazipur poultry market, drainage and sanitation improvements at the Ghazipur market, new infrastructure at Narela and the phased development of the proposed flower market.
