Senior leaders of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Monday (August 3, 2026) said that they will meet all MPs and Ministers to campaign against the free trade agreements signed with United Kingdom and European Union and the one in discussion with the United States. Maintaining that such treaties are not in the interest of agricultural producers and farm workers in the country, the SKM, the umbrella organisation of several farmers’ groups, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold discussions with them before inking the deals. “Moreover, such deals are not discussed in Parliament,” said SKM leader P Krishnaprasad at a press conference.
At a recent convention held here, the SKM had adopted a demand charter. The leaders said mass delegations of SKM will meet MPs and Ministers on August 17, 2026 to submit the charter of demands and to demand favourable action on seven principal demands. The demands include repealing all free trade agreements, including the proposed Indo-U.S. deal and a law for legalised minimum support price as per MS Swaminathan Commission report and guaranteed procurement for all crops. The other demands are: comprehensive loan waiver to end rural indebtedness and peasant and daily worker suicides; providing ₹25 lakh compensation to each peasant suicide victim families; scraping four Labour Codes and minimum wage of ₹ 31,000 payable to all workers; restoration of the MGNREGA, ensuring 200 days of work and ₹700 as wage; withdrawing the Electricity Privatisation Bill 2025, the Seed Bill 2025, and the NFSA Amendment Bill.
It also is against forceful land acquisition and pro corporate land pooling and seeks protection of land rights based on LARR Act 2013, FRA 2006 of tribals and non-tribal forest dwellers and PESA 1996 on self-governance and tribal self-rule. “The latest onslaught is the duopoly — of Adani and Leap
India — in the FCI silos, where 77.5% of the grains will be controlled by them, along with the curtailment of free grains under the Food Security Act. Though not a single rupee of the farmers was waived, corporate dues worth ₹16 lakh crores have been written off,” the leaders alleged.
