The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has scheduled a full shutdown of water supply from 9 am to 9 pm on Wednesday, June 3, to carry out pre-monsoon maintenance at the Pise pumping station and the Temghar water purification centre.
Workers will repair control panels, filter transformer oil, and service other technical systems that keep the city’s taps running. Alongside TMC’s own supply lines, water from the MIDC-managed Stem Authority will also be suspended for the same period — meaning there is no backup source during those 12 hours, as Mid-day has reported. Which Areas Will Be Affected? The shutdown covers a wide swathe of the city. Residents of Ghodbunder Road, Lokmanya Nagar, Vartak Nagar, Saket, Rutu Park, the Jail area, Gandhi Nagar, Rustomjee, Siddhachal, Indira Nagar, Rupadevi, Shree Nagar, Samata Nagar, Siddheshwar, Eternity Junction, Mumbra, and parts of Kalwa will have zero supply between 9 am and 9 pm. If your neighbourhood is on this list, plan accordingly. Will Supply Bounce Back Immediately After 9 PM? Not necessarily. The TMC has cautioned that low-pressure supply may persist in some localities for one to two days after the shutdown, until normal operations are fully restored. So Wednesday evening’s reopening of your tap is not guaranteed to mean full flow.
What About The Longer Water Crisis? Wednesday’s outage does not happen in isolation. TMC has already been dealing with falling reservoir levels and reduced groundwater — conditions severe enough to prompt a ban on vehicle washing at service centres across the city until June 10.
