In Bankipur, a constituency the BJP had held for nearly three decades, Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor defeated BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar by 19,324 votes. The victory marked KishorтАЩs maiden electoral win and handed the Jan Suraaj Party its first-ever Assembly seat since its formation in October 2024.
The contest was closely watched as Kishor chose Bankipur for his electoral debut. Nitin Nabin, who himself has represented the Bankipur Assembly constituency in the past and is now the Bihar BJP president, had actively campaigned for the party during the bypoll. The BJP also suffered a defeat in Datia, where the Congress wrested the seat from the ruling party, making it a disappointing day for the BJP in two key contests. Referring to the losses, Nabin said the party would examine the results with seriousness. тАЬIn Bankipur and Datia, we did not receive the expected mandate. We will conduct a thorough introspection of the election results in both these areas with complete seriousness and, with renewed energy and determination, continue to go among the people and work tirelessly to further strengthen their trust," he said. The BJPтАЩs response came after the bypoll results delivered a significant boost to Prashant KishorтАЩs Jan Suraaj Party while giving the Congress an important victory in Datia.
