H Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that the Telangana government is considering the creation of a legally empowered special mechanism to address issues faced by Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and their parents living in the State. Addressing the 19th American Telugu Association (ATA) Convention at the Baltimore Convention Center in Maryland in the U.S.A., Mr. Vikramarka said the proposed platform would facilitate the prompt resolution of problems faced by NRIs abroad as well as concerns affecting their families in Telangana.
He urged Telangana natives living overseas to enrol as voters through the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, noting that eligible citizens anywhere in the world can register online. He appealed to the NRIs to take advantage of the process and ensure their names are included in the voters list. Calling on NRIs to contribute their knowledge, expertise and investments to the State’s development, Mr. Vikramarka said Telangana was being developed to compete not only with other States in India but also with leading economies across the world.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the Congress government was working towards transforming Telangana into a $3 trillion economy by 2047. As part of this vision, the 56-km Musi river is being rejuvenated and beautified on the lines of the River Thames in London to ensure clean water flow and improve Hyderabad’s urban landscape. Stressing the importance of human resource development, he said the government was introducing major reforms in the education sector to help students from ordinary families get access to education of global standards.
He cited initiatives such as the Young India Integrated Residential Schools and invited NRIs to partner in efforts aimed at the development of their native places and the State.
