The gruesome crime was unearthed after neighbours alerted police about a foul smell coming from the house, leading officers to break open the locked premises. The deceased have been identified as Virendra Kumar Vaishya (70), his wife Anita Vaishya (65), daughter Meenakshi (45), and son Abhishek Vaishya. While the bodies of Virendra, Anita and Meenakshi were found inside the family home on Tuesday, Abhishek’s body was later recovered from a nearby family-owned shop.

Investigators discovered writings on a wall and a piece of cardboard stating, “Bunty-Babli daughter-in-law killed them." The message has now become a key lead in the investigation. Following the discovery, police launched a search for Ritu, who is believed to be associated with Ashwini Vaishya, a relative currently lodged in Kaushambi jail.
According to police sources, Ritu was recently released on bail in another case. As per the police, when Ritu and her husband were arrested in a cheating case, media reports at the time referred to them as ‘Bunty-Babli’. The message found on the cardboard is now being linked to that case. The Police Commissionerate has formed five special teams to investigate the case from different angles. Forensic experts, dog squads and field units have examined the crime scene, while CCTV footage from surrounding areas is also being scrutinised. Investigators have learned that both Abhishek and Ashwini allegedly had criminal backgrounds and strained relations with the family patriarch. However, police are yet to establish whether these disputes are directly linked to the murders. Officials said both the house and the shop were locked from the outside and had to be forcibly opened to recover the bodies. Preliminary findings suggest the victims may have been attacked with a heavy blunt object, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after post-mortem examinations.
As investigators race to piece together the final moments of the Vaishya family, the mysterious message left behind and the search for Ritu remain at the centre of one of Prayagraj’s most baffling murder cases in recent years.
