Prashant Kishor's party, Jansuraj, achieved its first-ever electoral victory by winning the Bankipur Assembly by-poll in Bihar, ending the BJP's 30-year hold on the constituency. In a high-stakes triangular contest, Kishor defeated both the BJP and the RJD. The victory comes after Jansuraj failed to win any seats in the 2025 Bihar assembly elections.
Key factors behind the win included anti-incumbency, focus on jobs and education, youth anger over paper leaks, and hyperlocal campaigning such as Mohalla meetings and Pad Yatras. Elsewhere in the by-polls, the BJP retained the Manjalpur assembly seat in Gujarat, while the Congress maintained its victory in Datia, Madhya Pradesh.
