Karnataka BJP spokesperson Anand Gurumurthy and Karnataka Congress spokesperson Shatabhe Shivanna debated the recent cabinet expansion and governance issues in Karnataka on India Today. Shivanna defended the party's handling of the expansion, acknowledging internal friction while emphasizing, 'disappointment is not disintegration.' He stated that balancing experience, region, community, and fresh talent among 136 MLAs for 34 ministerial posts led to a 'problem of plenty.' Conversely, Gurumurthy accused the Congress of disrespecting constitutional procedures, citing confusion over minister lists and public roadshows disturbing citizens.
He urged the government to focus on pressing public concerns like drought, traffic, and potholes rather than internal party drama. The debate also highlighted critical omissions, with Shivanna conceding that the total absence of women ministers in the newly expanded cabinet was a 'legitimate criticism' that the leadership must rectify. Both representatives traded barbs over past administrative delays and political stability as Congress promised solid governance ahead of future assembly elections.
