Sai also announced a cash prize of Rs 30 lakh for Gyaneshwari.

Gyaneshwari, the 23-year-old from Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district, clinched the silver medal in the women’s 53kg weightlifting event at the recent CWG in Glasgow, Scotland. Gyaneshwari, accompanied by her parents, met the Chief Minister at his official residence, where she was felicitated for bringing glory to both the country and Chhattisgarh, officials said. Speaking on the occasion, Sai said that Gyaneshwari’s success in her maiden CWG showed that no goal is beyond reach with strong determination, discipline and perseverance. “The achievement is a testament to the talent, hard work and determination of Chhattisgarh’s athletes," Sai added. The Chief Minister highlighted that Gyaneshwari bagged the silver medal after lifting a total of 199kg, creating a historic moment in Chhattisgarh’s sporting journey.

Sai said that despite limited resources and numerous challenges, Gyaneshwari remained steadfast in pursuit of her dreams and reached the international stage through unwavering dedication and hard work. Sai added that Gyaneshwari’s achievement would serve as an inspiration for young people, especially girls, across the state. Gyaneshwari, an Asian Championships bronze medallist, was appointed as an assistant sub-inspector in the Chhattisgarh Police in Rajnandgaon district in August 2023, officials said. Sai said that the state government had decided to grant Gyaneshwari an out-of-turn promotion to the rank of DSP in recognition of her achievement and to motivate other sportspersons to pursue excellence. Sai recalled meeting Gyaneshwari before her departure to Glasgow, where he wished her success and later congratulated her through a video call after her medal-winning performance.
