The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre has issued a yellow alert for August 4 (Tuesday), warning of heavy rainfall in the range of 64.5 mm to 115.4 mm in parts of Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts, among other places. Many parts of the Malnad region received moderate to heavy rain on Monday, disrupting normal life. In view of the heavy rain, the local administration declared a holiday for schools in Sringeri and Koppa in Chikkamagaluru district, and in Sagar and Tirthahalli in Shivamogga district, on Monday.
Karimane in the Hosanagara taluk of Shivamogga recorded 151.2 mm of rainfall in 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Monday — the highest in the district. In Hassan district, Hongadahala in Sakaleshpur taluk registered the highest rainfall at 46.5 mm, while in Chikkamagaluru district, Begar in Sringeri taluk recorded the highest at 104.5 mm. The water level in the region’s reservoirs continues to rise.
The water level at the Linganmakki reservoir, built across the Sharavathi river, stood at 1,784.70 ft. against the full reservoir level of 1,819.12 ft., with an inflow of 59,203 cusecs on the day. The gross storage was at 62.88 TMC against the gross capacity of 151.75 TMC. The water level at the Hemavathi reservoir at Goruru in Hassan taluk stood at 2,911.75 ft.
