In a major infrastructure overhaul in Srikakulam region, the State government has recently sanctioned ₹641 crore for the construction of Neradi barrage across Vamsadhara river. Thanking Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, Vamsadhara project chairman Aravala Ravindrababu on Monday said that the second phase of the project is going to be a reality soon and claimed that the initiative will provide water for nearly 45,000 acres of the new ayacut.
“The State government has issued G.O. 432 on July 26, sanctioning ₹641 crore for the project. The amount will be used for the construction of Neradi barrage, 48 kms upstream of existing Gotta barrage. The administration sanction is the first step of the beginning of the second phase of the project which was halted due to various reasons.
We hope the neighbouring Odisha government would also extend its support for the project with the initiatives taken by [Rammohan] Naidu in New Delhi,” Mr. Ravindrababu told The Hindu. He also said that the Revenue Department would take up land acquisition and Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) of displaced persons of the project.
The locals are keen to extend their support for land acquisition since the project would benefit thousands of farmers of the district.
