BMW has expanded the M2 line-up with the introduction of the new M xDrive all-wheel-drive variant, marking the first time the compact performance coupe is being offered with an AWD system.
Alongside enhanced traction and improved acceleration, the updated M2 also debuts BMW's new M Ignite engine technology, aimed at reducing fuel consumption during high-load driving.
The biggest mechanical change is the addition of BMW's rear-biased M xDrive system, which works in conjunction with an Active M Differential to distribute power between all four wheels when required.
Under normal driving conditions, the system sends power exclusively to the rear axle, preserving the traditional rear-wheel-drive character of the M2. However, when grip levels decrease, torque is seamlessly directed to the front wheels to maximise traction and stability.
