There has also been no move to initiate discussions on amendments to Women’s Quota or Delimitation Bill Rapid Read Opposition parties have made it clear they will continue with their protests unless their demands are addressed. No consensus emerged during the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meetings of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on Monday, with the Opposition and the government remaining at odds over the conduct of business in Parliament. While time has been allocated for discussion on several government bills, there appears to be little possibility of legislative business proceeding smoothly, as Opposition parties have made it clear they will continue with their protests unless their demands are addressed.

OPPOSITION’S DEMANDS In both Houses, the Opposition has reiterated its demand for a short-duration discussion on the alleged Ram Mandir donation scam, insisting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally intervene and respond during the debate. The Opposition also renewed its demand for a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the use of pellet guns and security forces against children during protests in the national capital. It is also reliably learnt that the government has, for now, decided not to list the proposed FCRA Amendment Bill. There has also been no move to initiate discussions on introducing the proposed amendments to the Women’s Reservation Bill or the Delimitation Bill. TIME ALLOTTED Despite the deadlock, the BAC has earmarked time for discussion on several pieces of legislation in the coming days.

The Lok Sabha BAC has allocated 3 hours for the Indian Statistical Institute Bill, 2026. 3 hours for the Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026. 5 hours for the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026. It has also been decided that in the Rajya Sabha, the BAC has allocated 2 hours for the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill. 3 hours each for the Indian Statistical Institute Bill and the Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill. 3 hours for the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill. The Monsoon Session has now entered its third week. So far, the only major legislation passed with broad consensus has been the Anti-Paper Leak Bill. The Opposition has made its position clear that it is unlikely to allow normal legislative business unless its demands are taken up.
