A major political crisis has erupted following the Karnataka cabinet expansion, which saw 20 new ministers inducted to complete the 34-member cabinet. The announcements sparked widespread dissatisfaction, street protests, and resignation threats from snubbed party leaders and aspirants across Karnataka. Yashwanthrayagouda Patil from the Indi constituency tendered his resignation to the Chief Secretary, alleging a conspiracy by minister MB Patil. Beluru Gopalakrishna announced plans to resign, while supporters of senior leader M Krishnappa and his son Priya Krishna staged protests in Bengaluru over the denial of cabinet berths.
Protests and anti-party slogans were also reported in Koppal district on behalf of dropped aspirant Raghavendra Hitnal. In Mysuru, supporters of Tanveer Sait demanded his resignation, and one supporter attempted suicide by consuming poison before being rushed to the hospital. Concerns have also been raised over political and caste representation, with no Brahmin MLAs receiving cabinet berths, only one woman inducted, and controversial figures facing past allegations being re-inducted.
