The statement further described the coverage as “yellow journalism" and claimed it reflected the agenda of “external actors with vested interests" seeking to delegitimise the elections. It maintained that the people of Muzaffarabad and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir had rejected “anarchy and coercion" through their participation in the polls. According to the sources, branding on-ground reporting as “yellow journalism" or attributing it to foreign agendas serves to deflect attention from allegations of electoral irregularities and security force crackdowns. The sources further argued that restricting critical media coverage during the polling process risks undermining the credibility of the election and signals an unwillingness to allow public or international scrutiny of the electoral process.

POK ELECTIONS The legislative assembly elections in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) have triggered deadly poll violence, widespread political boycotts, and a brutal security crackdown, causing demonstrations to spill over into major Pakistani cities like Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The Election Commission re-scheduled the voting process into three phases spanning from July 27 to August 10, 2026, due to regional instability. Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party is completely boycotting the elections. Meanwhile, the prominent activist group, the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), was officially banned by Islamabad right before the polls. The frontline ruling coalition partners, the PML-N and the PPP, are actively trading accusations of large-scale electoral fraud, booth capturing, and ballot box vandalism. Unrest has turned highly lethal, with clashes, ballot burning, and security forces firing on demonstrators, resulting in dozens of civilian deaths.
