Earlier, medal-winning athletes had to submit multiple documents and complete several administrative formalities before their cash rewards could be processed. The files then moved through multiple levels of scrutiny and approval across different departments before reaching the Sports Minister for final clearance, a process that typically took at least six months. Following the appointment of Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, the ministry has streamlined the procedure by eliminating several intermediate steps. Officials have been directed to verify the medal winners’ details in advance and expedite the processing of incentives, enabling cash rewards to be disbursed within four to five days of the athletes’ return. Under the Government of India’s existing incentive scheme, gold medallists will receive Rs 30 lakh, silver medallists Rs 20 lakh and bronze medallists Rs 10 lakh. Officials said the decision reflects the government’s intent to recognise sporting excellence promptly while eliminating the delays athletes have traditionally faced in receiving their financial incentives.

The move is also expected to boost athlete morale as India begins preparations for future international events, including the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad. PM Modi To Meet CWG Contingent The Sports Ministry is expected to seek an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a meeting with the Indian Commonwealth Games contingent once the entire team returns from Glasgow. According to sources, the interaction is likely to take place after all athletes and officials have returned to India. The Prime Minister is expected to congratulate the contingent on its performance and interact with medal winners as well as other members of the team. India concluded its campaign with an impressive haul of 39 medals – 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze – to finish fourth on the overall medals table. Boxing emerged as India’s standout discipline, delivering a historic haul, while the contingent also produced strong performances in athletics, para-athletics, weightlifting and judo.
