'It Took A Lot Of Courage To...': Vinesh Phogat After Brij Bhushan Acquitted In Sexual Harassment Case Published By, Last Updated: August 03, 2026, 13:28 IST Vinesh Phogat expressed disappointment after Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's acquittal in the sexual harassment case, alleging government and system 'shielded' him Wrestler Vinesh Phogat | File image credit: PTI Hours after former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was acquitted in the alleged sexual harassment case, wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Monday expressed disappointment over the verdict, alleging that both the government and the system had worked to “shield" him from the very beginning. Singh, a former WFI chief and a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, was cleared in the sexual harassment case filed by women wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik.
The Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi on Monday pronounced the verdict, acquitting him and co-accused Vinod Tomar in the case. In a post on ‘X’, Phogat wrote: “We had to gather a lot of courage to get to the roads and file an FIR against a strongman of the ruling party. In the name of his influence and power, Brij Bhushan has threatened many girls into taking their names back". “Despite this, several women stood strong and continued their fight against Brij Bhushan in the Court. We are saddened that the Court did not convict him in the sexual harassment case by women wrestlers", she added.
Phogat alleged that both government and the system had worked to “protect" Singh since the start, adding that women wrestlers would “continue" their fight against the former WFI chief. “Women wrestlers have directed their lawyers to file a petition against this verdict, and this will be done soon", she said. ‘I Would Hang Myself If Found Guilty’ After his acquittal in the sexual harassment case, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh told CNN-News18: “The court has acquitted me. I had said that day that I would hang myself if found guilty. Today, I am walking free after being acquitted."
