He praised the athletes for their determination, dedication and skill after the country finished its campaign with 39 medals. The reduced programme meant fewer medal opportunities compared to previous editions, making India’s finish among the top four quite impressive. Boxing was India’s most successful discipline, contributing the largest share of medals, while athletics, para-athletics, weightlifting and judo also delivered podium finishes during the 11-day event. While India topped the boxing charts, Gulveer Singh created history as the only Indian athlete to win two medals in a single edition of the CWG. The Games also witnessed several standout performances from established stars and emerging athletes. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu claimed her third consecutive CWG gold medal, while para-athlete Sharmila Dhankar scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a CWG gold in para-athletics. Olympians Neeraj Chopra and Lovlina Borgohain were among the high-profile names leading the Indian contingent. The Glasgow Games concluded on Sunday with the ceremonial handover of the CWG flag to India, which will host the centenary edition of the event in Ahmedabad in 2030.
