A warm and sunny Sunday afternoon gave way to dark clouds and sudden showers across several parts of Hyderabad after 4 p.m. on August 2, catching commuters off guard and causing minor waterlogging at a few locations. The weather changed rapidly in the late afternoon as thick clouds enveloped parts of the city, followed by spells of rain across central, western and northern Hyderabad.
Several motorists and pedestrians who had stepped out amid sunny conditions were caught in the sudden downpour. According to data from Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), of 6 p.m., Keesara recorded a rainfall of 18.3 mm followed by 17.8 mm in Khairatabad, 14.3 mm in Banjara Hills, 13 mm in Gunfoundry, 12.3 mm in Masab Tank, 12 mm in Shaikpet, 10.5 mm in Gachibowli, 9.5 mm in Safilguda and 9 mm in Filmnagar.
Traffic police personnel from the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri commissionerates were deployed at major intersections to ensure smooth traffic movement and prevent congestion. Disaster Response
Force (DRF) teams of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) were also pressed into service to clear waterlogged stretches.
