The Jammu Division of Northern Railway generated about Rs 78 lakh in penalties in July after checking against ticketless and irregular travel was stepped up across the division, an official spokesperson said on Sunday. During the month-long special drive, more than 10,000 cases were detected. The drive was aimed at curbing ticketless travel, unauthorised travel in higher classes, the carriage of unbooked luggage and other violations of railway rules. It involved strict ticket-checking and enforcement measures across trains and major stations in the division.
Read Full Story The spokesperson said ticket-checking staff carried out surprise and regular checks in all mail, express and passenger trains, as well as at major stations of the Jammu Division, under the guidance of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Jammu, Uchit Singhal. "The special drive yielded highly encouraging results, with the vigilance and alertness of the ticket-checking staff leading to the detection of 10,014 cases of ticketless and irregular travel during July. Penalties were imposed in accordance with railway rules, generating revenue of Rs 77,97,430," the spokesperson said.
Singhal appreciated the work of the ticket-checking staff and said the objective of the Jammu Division was not only to increase revenue but also to create awareness among passengers and encourage them to travel according to rules. "This achievement has been possible only due to the hard work and dedication of our ticket checking staff. Jammu Division will continue to conduct such intensive checking drives in the future as well for the convenience of passengers and for the safety of railway property," he said.
The special drive across the Jammu Division in July led to the detection of 10,014 cases of ticketless and irregular travel and brought in Rs 77,97,430 in penalties, with the railway saying such checks will continue. Ends
