An exclusive report from Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram details the facility's upcoming operational launch on August 17. The new airport will replace the existing Vizag International Airport and serve Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, and Vijayanagaram districts. Built by GMR, the terminal incorporates Andhra Pradesh's cultural heritage, including Mugulu art, Kuchipudi representations, and Shehnai designs, alongside modern features like Digi Yatra, automated kiosk centres, and self-baggage drops.
The building is engineered to withstand cyclone winds up to 275 km/h and heavy rainfall of 275 mm. GMR Deputy Managing Director IP Rao stated that the airport was completed six months ahead of schedule and utilises AI-driven predictive operational control systems alongside smart washrooms. Designed with solar energy capacity of 5 MW, the airport starts with a si million passenger capacity that can expand to 40 million as demand grows.
