Gescom chairman Praveen Patil Harwal on Saturday (August 1) conducted an extensive inspection of electrical infrastructure and ongoing development projects in the Hosapete and Hampi regions and directed officials to ensure reliable power supply to residents, farmers and tourists while expediting key infrastructure works. Inspecting the transformer repair centre at Hosapete, Mr. Harwal instructed officials to maintain strict quality control in the use of materials and transformer oil. To reduce delays in replacing damaged transformers, he announced a revised allocation system under which repaired transformers would be supplied directly to division stores instead of routing them through zonal stores.
He directed officials to ensure that the transformers are released to farmers without delay. During his visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi, the managing director reviewed power infrastructure and instructed field officials to install covered conductors on electricity lines to preserve the heritage site’s aesthetics while enhancing public safety. He also stressed the need to maintain uninterrupted power supply to tourist destinations. Reviewing the ongoing solar power project at Byluvadigeri, Mr. Harwal directed officials to speed up the work so that the renewable energy project could be commissioned at the earliest.
He also inspected Gescom stores in Hosapete and instructed officials to maintain adequate stock of essential materials to enable quick restoration of electricity during outages and emergencies. Emphasising on the importance of the State government’s flagship Gruha Jyothi scheme, Mr. Harwal instructed Gescom officials not to summon beneficiaries to
parks, temples or offices for verification. Instead, he said, all verification should be carried out through door-to-door visits at the beneficiaries’ residences. He also directed officials to accord top priority to electrical works related to the Ganga Kalyan scheme and local drinking water supply projects to ensure their timely completion.
