According to local reports, the incident took place at a polling station in Lower Kot village, Union Council Katkair, constituency LA-31 Khawara, Muzaffarabad.
PPP local leader Syed Mushtaq Shah was killed in the clash, while at least three people were reported injured. The death was confirmed by PPP local leader Syed Kifayat Shah, who said that Syed Mushtaq Shah lost his life during the election-related violence. The circumstances leading to the clash are being investigated, and official details from election authorities were awaited. Meanwhile, the PPP has urged the PoK Election Commission to intervene over alleged irregularities at polling stations, claiming that administrative issues were affecting the voting process. The party alleged that at a polling station in LA-40, two polling booths were operating with a single official stamp, resulting in delays and difficulties for voters.
It further raised concerns over shared voter lists and discrepancies in serial numbers, claiming that the issues could impact the voting rights of around 1,100 registered voters. The PPP has demanded immediate corrective action, including separate voter lists for individual booths, independent official stamps and rectification of serial number discrepancies. The party has also called for an extension of polling hours, arguing that voters should not lose their opportunity to cast ballots due to administrative shortcomings. The second phase of the PoK Assembly elections is being conducted amid tight security, with multiple constituencies witnessing a high-stakes contest between major political parties. Election authorities have not yet issued a detailed response to the allegations of irregularities and violence.
