Three members of a migrant worker's family, including a three-year-old child, were killed after a rain-triggered landslide buried their makeshift shed in Karnataka's Shivamogga district in the early hours of Sunday, police said. The incident took place at the district’s Indira Nagar area, where continuous rainfall in the Malnad region triggered a landslide at around 2.30 am, burying the family's temporary shelter under debris.

The family hailed from Kokkaregaru village in Gangavathi taluk of Koppal district and had been living in the workers' shed for the past two years. Police, along with personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services department, rushed to the spot after receiving information about the landslide.
A rescue operation was launched, and the bodies of all three victims were recovered from beneath the debris. Another worker, who was staying in a nearby shed, sustained serious injuries in the incident. The injured person was rescued and admitted to Jayachamarajendra Hospital in Thirthahalli, where treatment is underway. Authorities suspect the landslide was triggered by heavy overnight rainfall that lashed the Malnad region.
The incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by migrant workers living in temporary shelters in landslide-prone areas during the monsoon season. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragedy. Ends
