A farmer from Bihar’s Supaul district carried a nearly five-foot-long crocodile on his shoulders to a police station after rescuing it from a paddy field.
The unusual incident unfolded when farmers working in a paddy field spotted the crocodile hiding among the crops, triggering panic and drawing curious villagers to the spot. Instead of harming the reptile, residents decided to rescue it safely. With the help of fellow villagers, farmer Amit Kumar restrained the crocodile by tying its snout with a rope to prevent it from attacking anyone. With no immediate assistance available, Amit Kumar hoisted the crocodile onto his shoulders and set off for the nearest forest department office. However, after finding no officials at the office, he continued to the Bhimnagar police station, carrying the reptile the entire way.
Videos of the incident show stunned onlookers stopping along the roadside to watch the farmer walk with the crocodile balanced on his shoulders. Many filmed the unusual sight on their mobile phones and the clips quickly went viral on social media. After being alerted by the police, forest department officials reached the station and took custody of the crocodile. Following a health examination, officials confirmed that the reptile was around five feet long and in good condition before releasing it safely into the Kosi River. Forest department forester Ravi Ranjan said such encounters become more common during the monsoon, as rising water levels force wild animals out of their natural habitats and into nearby villages and farmlands.
