Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Aluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Andhra Pradesh. Built in record time, the first phase of the airport has a passenger handling capacity of 6 million annually and can be expanded to 40 million in the future. Spread across 77,000 square metres, the airport features AI-powered biometric passenger processing, automated baggage handling, self-check-in, self-baggage drop, and smart traffic management systems. It currently has 18 aircraft parking stands, with the capacity to expand to nearly 100.
The airport is expected to improve connectivity, boost tourism, promote the tribal culture of the Aluri Sitarama Raju region, and unlock the economic potential of the east coast. It is expected to serve around two crore people across nine districts of Andhra Pradesh and parts of south Odisha.
