Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks told reporters that the shooter was dead and there was no longer any danger to the public. According to Josh Palmer, the city’s public information coordinator, an active shooter incident was reported at approximately 2:30 p.m. local time (2030 GMT) near an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in a busy commercial area, Reuters reported. Roughly an hour later, Palmer said, “it was determined that the shooter was no longer a threat." Speaking at a press conference, Hicks said he did not know the precise number of fatalities. However, Palmer told Reuters that three people had been killed and at least two others were injured.

Hicks said the gunman was among those who died. He added that investigators were working to establish the shooter’s identity and determine a motive. In a Facebook post, the Twin Falls Police Department said roads around the scene, along with a nearby bridge, were shut down shortly after the shooting was reported. Local media footage showed what appeared to be a young man carrying a long gun outside the In-N-Out Burger. Separate videos shared on social media captured more than a dozen people fleeing the restaurant. Twin Falls, a city of roughly 56,000 residents in southern Idaho, is located about 180 miles (290 km) northwest of Salt Lake City.
